The configuring of Google apps for education account couldn’t be simpler with PEL providing experienced assistance throughout the setup. We have experience in migrating school environments to the Google cloud and providing on-going training and support for the applications.
So what does a school in Bedfordshire need to do? One of our engineers explains:
The school will be required to own a domain name registered to the school (for the majority of schools in the central Bedfordshire area they own the previous domain name before they were migrated to the @cbc accounts). For example they will own the name <schoolname>.beds.sch.uk which will be the previous email account of the school. The mx records are still hosted by central Bedfordshire and PEL can liaise on the schools behalf with central Bedfordshire, setup the required mx records changes and verification of html files.
Non-central Bedfordshire will be required to purchase an additional domain name from a domain name provider. Once the account is purchased, we can register with Google and then upload the verification file provided by Google to the new account. We then reconfigure the mx record to point to the Google servers.
Central schools will allow access to Gmail servers
Non-central schools will have to contact ISP and request for access to Gmail servers which PEL engineers have experience doing and filling out firewall change request forms.
Apps for education:
Once the account is up and running the account can be upgraded to an education account by sending an upgrade request to Google. This takes about 2 weeks and once confirmed the school have an unlimited amount of accounts to use for free.
